Day 2 Chiba Tour

Returned to Chiba today, Chiba is part of the greater Tokyo area. It's a bit like Hammersmith, if Hammersmith had a population of 5 million.

The Tour

The anime "My teenage romantic snaffu" is set in Chiba and someone, I presume the Chiba area council?, decided to try and boost tourism by running an event for a month.

The event is something of a self guided tour, information is provided by an app, that can only be installed on phones with the play/app store set to Japan because Japan.

The map:

Due to Japan and Google I couldn't install the app, however, I'd arranged to spend the day with a native who agreed to go along on the tour with me.

The app had some features where you could take photos with the characters imposed on top and some ar features where it would impose an image over the camera feed based on your location.

Here's some examples I stole from twitter.

this is some information about the shrine.

But most importantly, the app has a "stamp rally".

The app has 5 locations in Chiba marked on its map. These are not marked on the paper map because?

If you goto the locations with location active you collect the stamps then show this at Chiba port tower for a prize.

Screenshots are from my friend's phone this time.

Irl bits

The tour had "almost life sized cutouts" of some of the anime's characters. The location of which was exclusively and vaguely on the paper map.

Tracking these down was fun.

The reward for completing the stamp rally was one of these small posters. Sure to some quick thinking by my friend, we were able to get one of each.

You collect the reward at Chiba port tower which is exclusively a tourist attraction. It has a shop in the ground floor, an observation lounge, a restaurant and another observation lounge.

After port Chiba tower there was food.

Not just any food but food from Tare Katsu.

A desire to eat which was a good 10% of why I came back to Japan.
